On hot topic for the 2010-2011 school year is campus smoking. The United Students in Residence Halls (USRH) will require each hall to vote on a location, outside of the building, where smoking will be permitted. This is one step the USRH is taking to help alleviate the second hand smoking concerns of students. The issue of banning smoking on college campuses is not new to UW-Oshkosh, campuses like UW-Baraboo, UW-Stout and UW-Platteville are the only UW-system schools currently with a smoking ban for the entire campus. Universities like UW- Whitewater and UW-La Crosse have enacted the "25 foot" rule. This rule permitts smoking 25 feet away from each building on campus.
