Key Topics: Mixed-gender res hall rooms!
Currently there are about 50 schools in the U.S. that allow men and women to room together. No UW-System school offers this accommodation. This trend is growing but many schools are still hesitant on allowing men and women to room together. In the 1970s, several colleges and universities in the U.S. eliminated their single-sex residence halls and adopted coed residence halls, where males and females are housed on alternating floors or wings. Then came the un-orthodox coed hallways and bathrooms. Now, some colleges allow undergraduates of opposite sexes to share a room. Here in Taylor, on certain floors, we allow for male and female residents to live next door to one another. What are your thoughts on mixed gendered roommates?

Key Topics: Campus Smoking Ban!
On hot topic for the 2010-2011 school year is campus smoking. The United Students in Residence Halls (USRH) will require each hall to vote on a location, outside of the building, where smoking will be permitted. This is one step the USRH is taking to help alleviate the second hand smoking concerns of students. The issue of banning smoking on college campuses is not new to UW-Oshkosh, campuses like UW-Baraboo, UW-Stout and UW-Platteville are the only UW-system schools currently with a smoking ban for the entire campus. Universities like UW- Whitewater and UW-La Crosse have enacted the "25 foot" rule. This rule permitts smoking 25 feet away from each building on campus. What are your opinions on a smoking ban on campus?
Be sure to cast your vote in the right-hand column!
